Subsidized Housing

Subsidized Housing Programs

The Mankato and Blue Earth County Economic Development Authorities provide two housing assistance programs, Section 8 and Affordable Rental Housing.

Section 8
The Section 8 housing program allows participants to use existing rental housing in Mankato and Blue Earth County. Participants are required to find their own housing, which must meet minimum housing quality standards set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. As program openings become available, the first person on the waiting list is notified by letter and must come into the office for a briefing and to receive their applicable Voucher of Family Participation. Until written notification occurs, applicants' names remain on the waiting list.

Affordable Rental Housing
The Affordable Rental Housing Program provides housing units owned by the Mankato or Blue Earth County Economic Development Authority. Units are located throughout Mankato, Eagle Lake, Lake Crystal, Madison Lake and Mapleton. One, two, three, four and five bedroom units are available. When a unit becomes vacant, the first person on the waiting list is notified.

Making an application
Housing assistance applicants are taken by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 311 or 507-387-8600. Please bring copies of birth certificates, or  photo identification (such as a driver's license) and Social Security cards for everyone in your household.
