Take part in Mankato’s annual Spring Clean-up, a value-added benefit of the city’s garbage and recycling service. Electronics and televisions are two of the most frequently accepted items at the city’s annual Spring Clean-up. Items not accepted are cement, asphalt (including asphalt shingles), tires, appliances, recyclable materials, or hazardous waste. For more information contact staff at 311 or 507-387-8600.

During May, appliances will be picked up at residents’ addresses curbside by scheduled appointment. There is a cost per appliance. Included in appliance recycling are: refrigerators (no recreational vehicle refrigerators), water heaters, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, ranges, air conditioners, microwave ovens, residential furnaces, dryers, washers, dishwashers and water softeners.

Televisions and computers may be disposed of at no cost by bringing them to the public works building, 221 Lamm Street, only during the May Spring Cleanup days.

Grass clippings, leaves, tree branches and other compostable materials may be taken to the Southern Minnesota Construction compost site, 57032 231st Lane, Mankato, at no charge for Mankato non-commercial residents.
Please do not dump grass clippings, leaves or other items into or along ravine areas. This can saturate and kill vegetation, which contributes to ravine destabilization.

Hazardous waste is accepted at the Blue Earth County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 651 Summit Avenue. Household hazardous waste including paints, solvents, pesticides, gasoline, propane, fertilizers, oil and oil filters will be accepted at no charge. Dispose of any chemicals not used because accumulated products can create health and safety risks.
The following items are not be accepted: farm, business, institutional, commercial, medical, radioactive and explosive wastes.
The Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and the second Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
