Records

Records handles the following tasks for the Mankato Department of Public Safety.

  • Data entry for all written reports generated by officers.
  • Scanning all reports in to an optical imaging program for storage.
  • Processing the paperwork for all incarcerated persons.
  • Release of all requests for data maintained by the department.
  • Processing all background checks for gun permits to purchase, liquor licenses and gambling permits.
  • Managing the property and evidence functions.
  • Managing the false alarm permit and response process for the City of Mankato.
  • Managing the problem solving conference process for rental properties for the City of Mankato.

View options for paying citations given by a Mankato police officer.

A permit to purchase/transfer firearms is available online; or, Mankato residents can also apply at the Public Safety Center, 710 South Front Street.  Requirements include:

  • have to apply within jurisdiction the applicant lives
  • driver's license must reflect current address

There is no cost for the permit and it is valid for 12 months.  Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
