Sunday, January 29, 9:40 p.m.
Last night at 8:10 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. two separate robberies of pizza delivery employees were reported to police. Arrested and placed in the Blue Earth County jail were Matthew Paul Fryer--age 19, Mankato and John Wesley Fletcher--age 21, Mankato. Charges requested are first degree aggravated robbery, second degree assault and other felony and misdemeanor charges. These crimes carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.
The second of the two robberies included a police pursuit of the suspects in a vehicle which lasted about six blocks and ended when the suspect's sport utility vehicle hit an unoccupied parked pickup at North Fifth and Elm streets. Fletcher fled on foot after the vehicle accident and was arrested at Washington and North Fifth streets. Both incidents occurred downtown.
Through investigation, Fryer was identified as the second suspect. He was arrested, without incident, this afternoon at his residence.
In both instances, the victims reported that suspects pointed a potential replica handgun (designed to look like a real handgun) at them and demanded money. In the first instance, the victim was assaulted in the face and their car window broken by the suspects in an attempt to obtain money and/or property. No medical treatment was needed for the victim's injuries. In the second, separate incident, the victim was not harmed.
North Mankato police and Blue Earth County sheriff deputies assisted in both incidents.
