Late Night Express

  • The last day of service for the Late Night Express will be Sunday, May 09, 2010.  Normal operations will resume on Saturday, August 21, 2010.
  • The Late Night Express debuted as a no cost service in October 2004, but quickly made the switch to a $1 charge for bus fare.
  • This service is designed solely to ensure that responsible individuals who feel they may have had too much to drink have a safe way home without driving.
  • The Late Night Express does not pick up individuals and bring them to the downtown entertainment district.
  • The service area is generally that geographic area contained within the boundaries of James Avenue, Stadium Road, Pohl Road and Glenwood Ave.
  • There is not a predetermined route for the Late Night Express.  The driver will use his best descreation to determine the most efficient route within the service area at any given time.
  • There is no predetermined departure time for the Late Night Express.  The driver/police will make the determination as to the appropiated departure time.
  • The bus fare for this route is $1.00
  • The hours of operation are Midnight-3 a.m.
  • The Late Night Express only operates weekends during the Minnesota State University, Mankato academic school year (fall and spring semester).
  • This route does not operate over the summer months (mid May through mid August) or during the 30-day break between fall and spring semesters.
  • In 2006 the Late Night Express transported 10,422 passengers safely back to their residence.  This number represents an increase of 44.6% over 2005.  
  • In 2007 the Late Night Express transported 11,083 passengers safely back to their residence. This number represents an increase of 6.34% over 2006.
  • In 2008 the Late Night Express transported 11,874 passengers safely back to their residence.  This number represents an increase of 7.14% over 2007.
  • In 2009 the Late Night Express transported 12,213 passengers safely back to thir residence.  This number represents an increase of 2.9% over 2008.  We anticipate this number to remain stable as demand is high and we are opertaing very near maximum capacity.
