Mobility Bus Service

Eligibility
The city of Mankato, in addition to operating a fixed route bus system within the Mankato area, operates complimentary paratransit service for qualified residents. This service is designed to provide transportation to individuals who would otherwise be unable to access public transportation due to mental and/or physical disability. The eligibility guidelines and application may be accessed at:

Service area
The service area for the Greater Mankato Transit Systems paratransit service includes any location within the city limits of Mankato or North Mankato. Drivers will not transport passengers outside the city limits of either Mankato or North Mankato. The Mobility Bus does not provide service to Le Hillier or Eagle Lake.  A map of the city limits of Mankato may be accessed here.  To access the map, place your cursor over the Departments box in the top right of the screen and click on the arrow pointing to Community Development.  Scroll down until you find Community Governance and then check the box.  The city limits of Mankato will appear on the map.

Fare
All individuals who have completed the application and certification process have two options to pay for Mobility Bus transportation.

  • cash fare: $3 (one way)
  • discount book (10 tickets): $27

Discount books may be purchased:

  • directly from the driver
  • from the information desk located in the Intergovernmental Center, 10 Civic Center Plaza (anybody using a voucher must purchase their tickets here).

Schedule a ride
Once individuals have been entered into the system as a certified user of paratransit services, they will be able to schedule transportation. Due to the heavy demand on this service, transportation is being scheduled four weeks in advance of the current date. Listed below are some recommendations that may help secure the time slot and date on which transportation is needed.

  • Call 507-625-RIDE (7433) as far in advance as possible to make a reservation.
  • Reservations need to be requested a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
  • Call between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. if possible
  • Do not assume that because a message has been left that the reservation has been accepted at the requested time.
  • When leaving a message, include your name and a phone number at which you can be reached.
  • Drivers do not make reservations on a customer's behalf. 
  • If making a reservation request for dialysis, or any other urgent medical appointment, please inform the scheduler at the time of the reservation request.
  • The maximum capacity for each paratransit vehicle is two wheelchair passengers and 12 ambulatory passengers.

Hours of operation

  • Two paratransit vehicles operate Monday through Friday: 6:35 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • One paratransit vehicle operates Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Certified paratranist customers may access transportation services between the hours of 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday as long as the pick up and drop off locations are within 3/4 of a mile of the Stomper Express bus route.  Please call 507.625.RIDE (7433) 24 hours prior to the desired departure time.
  • There is no Mobility Bus service on the following observed holidays:
    1. New Year’s Day
    2. Memorial Day
    3. Fourth of July
    4. Labor Day
    5. Thanksgiving Day
    6. Christmas Day
  • The hours of operation in North Mankato are listed below:
    1. Monday through Friday: 6:35 a.m.-8:35 a.m.
    2. Monday through Friday: 11:35 a.m.-12:35 p.m.
    3. Monday through Friday: 2:35 p.m.-5:35 p.m.
  • The Mobility Bus is not allowed to transport individuals into/out of North Mankato on Saturday or Sunday, or any times other than the ones listed above.
