The Mankato Department of Public Safety has both full-time and volunteer firefighters. The combination full-time/volunteer makeup provides quality service to the community at a reasonable cost. Lieutenants provide leadership and supervision in incident command, fire prevention and education, investigations, training and station and equipment maintenance. Full-time firefighters provide the expertise in training, inspections, investigations and hazardous material responses. Volunteers provide needed staffing, primarily at night, to handle fire, medical and other emergency calls for service.
