Central Garage is the vehicle agency that provides safe, dependable and efficient fleet of vehicles for the City of Mankato. Staff maintains and provides parts, fuel and labor for all city vehicles including construction equipment, police vehicles, fire trucks, buses, mowers and other city units. These vehicles are leased from the Central Garage to city departments at a fixed rate, usually cost-per-mile. The depreciation portion of the rate is deposited into a fund which is used to purchase new vehicles.

The Central Garage was built as an energy efficient building with solar panels and air lock doors. In 1993, a waste oil burner was installed. All of the oil from oil changes in city vehicles is stored in a large tank and then reused for heating during the winter months.
